NHS Health Checks are available to eligible 40 to 74 year olds once every 5 years. They assess the individual’s health and identify relatively simple lifestyle changes they could make to lower their risk of developing serious but preventable conditions such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, type 2 diabetes and dementia.
The NHS Health Check is now available online and is designed to give people the same assessment as an in-person NHS Health Check, but with the convenience of completing it at home.
A number of GP practices in Wolverhampton are taking part in a pilot programme and inviting eligible patients to complete their NHS Health Check online. Everyone else will continue to be offered an in-person check in the usual way.
Councillor Obaida Ahmed, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Community, said: “If you’re 40 to 74, keep an eye out for an invitation from your GP to complete your check online via the NHS app. Taking part could help you stay healthier for longer, and doing so online is an easy way to look after your health even if you’re busy, work long hours, or find appointments difficult to attend.
“If you are invited to complete an online NHS Health Check you will be asked to answer a series of questions online which will give you a better understanding of your health status.
“You may also be offered a blood test at home, along with full instructions on how to collect the sample and return it to the lab. Alternatively, you may be asked to book an appointment to go to your GP for a blood test and blood pressure reading. Either way, you will receive your results directly via the NHS app.
“If your GP is not taking part in the online pilot, do not worry – you will still be able to get your NHS Health Check face to face whenever it is due.”
