The event provided families with the opportunity to spend quality time together, engage in exciting outdoor activities, and build meaningful connections with one another.
Families participated in a range of activities including climbing, archery, campfires, and team challenges. Parents shared how valuable it was to meet others who understand the adoption journey, while children and young people thrived in the outdoor setting, forming new friendships and building confidence.
The event was made possible thanks to grant funding and supports Adoption@Heart’s commitment to strengthen families by fostering peer networks and social opportunities.
Simon Green, Head of Service at Adoption@Heart, said: “This event could not have taken place without the hard work and dedication of the Adoption@Heart team. A huge thank you goes to our staff, especially the colleagues who supported families throughout the weekend.
“We will continue to build on this innovative approach to ensure families across the Black Country feel connected, supported, and celebrated.”
Councillor Jacqui Coogan, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, added: “This initiative is a shining example of how we can support adoptive families in a meaningful and proactive way.
“By investing in early support and peer connection, we are helping families to thrive and ensuring that children grow up in loving, stable homes. I’m incredibly proud of the work Adoption@Heart is doing across the Black Country.”
Hosted by the council, Adoption@Heart delivers adoption services for Wolverhampton, Sandwell, Walsall and Dudley. The agency continues to buck the national trend of declining adopter recruitment, welcoming a record number of new adoptive households to provide loving homes for children in need.
