The Late Night Safe Haven, delivered by Wolverhampton BID in partnership with the City of Wolverhampton Council, West Midlands Police, and the University of Wolverhampton, will be in operation in Queen Square on Fridays and Saturdays, 5, 6, 12, 13, 19 and 20 December.
The Safe Haven acts as a place of safety providing care, advice and assistance for anyone who attends. Free cups of water are available and visitors can also receive support to help them arrange to get home.
Complemented by a dedicated First Aid team, the service reduces pressure on the NHS, police and ambulance services while helping to make the city’s streets friendly and welcoming for all who come to enjoy Wolverhampton’s restaurants, pubs, bars and nightclubs.
Councillor Obaida Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Community, said: “Thanks to funding from the Safer Wolverhampton Partnership, we are able to extend the Safe Haven service for an additional four nights this December.
“This extra provision will make a real difference, ensuring that people enjoying our vibrant city centre can do so safely, while also reducing pressure on emergency services.
“In doing so, and by supporting licensed venues, and helping to tackle night time anti-social behaviour, the Safe Haven plays a vital role in ensuring that a great night out in Wolverhampton is also a safe night out.
“It’s a fantastic example of partnership working, and I am delighted that together we can provide this vital support during the busy festive period.”
