Launched in 2024 by the council, WV Active and Wolves Foundation, Yo! Active offers a wide range of free physical activity sessions across the council’s WV Active leisure centres and community venues.
It is open to all children and young people aged 0 to 18, with eligibility extended to 25 years for care leavers and those with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).
More than 18,500 young people have already signed up, with activities on offer ranging from swimming and gym sessions to multi sport, basketball, court hire and even bespoke sessions for under fives.
Councillor Obaida Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Community, said: “Yo! Active supports our commitment to improving health, wellbeing and life chances for local young people, helping families stay active and promoting long term healthy lifestyles.
“It has been a fantastic success story for Wolverhampton, opening up opportunities for thousands of children and young people to enjoy sport and physical activity without the worry of cost, and helping them stay active, healthy, and socially connected.
“Indeed, over 18,500 children and young people now signed up and able to access a wide variety of free activities at locations across the city.
“We are delighted to be extending the programme, and particularly pleased to be continuing our partnership with Wolves Foundation.”
Tom Warren, Wolves Foundation General Manager, said: “We’re incredibly pleased that Yo! Active is being extended and that Wolves Foundation will continue as lead provider.
“The programme has already made a huge difference to thousands of children and young people across Wolverhampton, removing barriers to physical activity and helping families build healthier, more active lifestyles.
“Working alongside the City of Wolverhampton Council and WV Active, we’re proud to play our part in a partnership that is creating real, lasting impact for our communities.”
The new contract will initially be for a period of 1 year but can be extended to up for 4 years, subject to funding.
