New activity sessions will support people living with Parkinson’s

People living with Parkinson’s in Wolverhampton are being invited to take part in 2 new weekly activity sessions designed to help improve their strength, mobility and overall wellbeing.

The new programme, delivered by the City of Wolverhampton Council in partnership with Parkinson’s UK, offers non‑contact boxing fitness and strength and balance classes, both aimed at helping participants stay active, connected and confident in their daily lives.

The non‑contact boxing fitness sessions use simple, boxing inspired movements to boost coordination, balance, agility and cardiovascular health. Sessions take place at the Bob Jones Community Hub, Bromley Street, every Wednesday from 1pm to 2pm, with free hot drinks after each class.

The strength and balance sessions focus on controlled movements that support posture, stability and everyday functional strength. Using body weight and optional resistance bands, the exercises can be completed seated or standing, making them fully adaptable for all levels and abilities. Sessions take place at Penn Library, Coalway Avenue, every Friday from 11am to 12pm, also followed by free hot drinks.

Councillor Obaida Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Community, said: “Our Parkinson’s sessions are designed to help individuals living with Parkinson’s maintain strength, mobility and confidence in their daily lives through fun, tailored activities.

“These new sessions reflect our commitment to improving health and wellbeing across the city, and I’m delighted that residents will benefit from such inclusive and uplifting programmes.”

The first 4 classes are free, with donations welcomed. Carers are also welcome to attend. For more information or to book, please email activeageing@wolverhampton.gov.uk.
