Parents urged to apply for reception class places for 2026

Parents and guardians of children who will start school for the first time in September 2026 are being urged to apply for places online now.

The window for applications for reception class places at infant and primary schools in Wolverhampton is now open. The online application process is quick and easy, and families have until midnight on 15 January, 2026 to register their preferences.

To apply, please log on to School admissions and complete the short application process as soon as possible.

Councillor Jacqui Coogan, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, said: “Parents or guardians of children who are due to start infant or primary school next September should make time now to apply for their place.

“This is one of the most important decisions you will make for your child’s future. The application process is straightforward and should only take a few minutes to complete.

“It’s important to remember that, if your child is already in nursery provision at an infant or primary school, you still need to apply for a reception class place for them.

“Please also get your applications in by the deadline of 15 January, 2026, as applying after this time could have a detrimental effect on your chance of securing a place at one of your preferred schools.”

Applying online has a number of benefits. Applications are made through a secure website and can be viewed and edited online up to the closing date for applications of 15 January, 2026. Applicants can also find out about their child’s school place allocation online when it is announced in April 2026, rather than having to wait for the post.

For more help and advice, visit School admissions or call the Admissions and Appeals Team on 01902 551122.

Anyone who needs help making their online application is invited to attend one of the School Application Surgeries being held at the Civic Centre, St Peter’s Square, Wolverhampton, WV1 1SH on Thursdays 11 and 18 December, 2025, and Thursdays 8 and 15 January, 2026, from 10am to 2pm. No appointment is necessary.
