The City of Wolverhampton Council has launched an eight-week consultation giving people the opportunity to share their views on a draft Voluntary and Community Sector Strategy setting out how the council can work more effectively with the voluntary, community and social enterprise and faith sector to support local communities.
The draft strategy builds on extensive engagement carried out over recent months with local organisations, partners and stakeholders. This has included a programme of workshops, conversations and collaborative sessions designed to understand the strengths of the sector, the challenges it faces, and the opportunities for doing things differently in Wolverhampton.
Councillor Obaida Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Community, said: “Wolverhampton has a proud and active voluntary and community sector that plays a vital role in supporting residents and strengthening our communities.
“The draft Voluntary and Community Sector Strategy will mark a step change in how the council will work with the sector. It reflects what we’ve heard through our engagement and sets out a clear commitment to building stronger relationships, improving how we work together, and treating the sector as an equal partner in shaping the future of our city.
“We want to hear directly from organisations, communities and residents as part of this consultation, so that the final strategy reflects real experiences and supports a thriving, resilient voluntary and community sector across Wolverhampton.”
The draft Voluntary and Community Sector Strategy is underpinned by a clear vision of a Wolverhampton where strong, confident and connected communities shape the future of the city. It focuses on five key areas – a thriving sector, a collaborative sector, a sector that reinforces civil society, engagement that elevates the sector’s voice, and learning together.
The council is leading the consultation, working in partnership with Wolverhampton Voluntary & Community Action, which has been commissioned to deliver a series of workshops to support organisations and community representatives to take part and shape the proposals.
