The report recognises Ormiston NEW Academy as a place where pupils feel safe, supported and valued, with inspectors highlighting the strong relationships between staff and students and the pride pupils feel in being part of the school community.
Inspectors found that pupils see Ormiston NEW Academy as a special place to learn. Students said they appreciate being listened to by leaders and staff, and that they are consulted when changes are made. Pupils feel well cared for and enjoy coming to school because it is a safe, positive environment where they proudly live the academy values of pride, endeavour, together and excellence.
The report praised the calm and vibrant atmosphere across the academy, noting that pupils behave responsibly, treat each other and staff with kindness and confidence, and understand the high expectations around respect and conduct. Bullying is rare, and pupils are confident that any concerns will be dealt with effectively.
A key strength identified by inspectors was the academy’s inclusive approach. Ormiston NEW Academy actively welcomes pupils with additional needs or barriers to learning, ensuring they receive the support they need to thrive. Inspectors recognised that pupils who may have experienced challenges in their education feel a strong sense of belonging and are supported to succeed.
The inspection also highlighted the academy’s strong focus on personal development and wellbeing. Pupils benefit from a wide range of enrichment opportunities, allowing them to explore their interests beyond the classroom — from sport and fitness to creative activities and clubs. Inspectors noted that pupils enjoy developing their interests together and that leaders work hard to ensure all groups of pupils can participate.
Principal Craig Cooling said: “We are incredibly proud of our pupils and the community we have built together at Ormiston NEW Academy. This report reflects what we see every day — young people who are confident, respectful and ambitious, supported by staff who care deeply about their success.
