Foster Care Fortnight, which began yesterday (Monday 11 May, 2026), is the UK’s biggest awareness raising campaign for fostering. This year’s theme, ‘This is Fostering’, highlights the diversity of experiences within fostering and raises awareness of the vital role foster parents play in transforming young lives.
Fostering for Wolverhampton is proud to support a growing community of dedicated foster parents who make a life changing difference every day. Foster parents can come from all walks of life – whether single, married or in a relationship – and they are supported every step of the way.
Support includes 24/7 guidance, buddy support from experienced foster parents, and a regular, tax exempt fee and allowance to help cover the cost of caring for a child.
Councillor Jacqui Coogan, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, said: “Foster parents make a life changing difference to children every day.
“This campaign is about recognising those moments that change everything for a child – and encouraging more people to be part of that journey.
“If you have the space and care to give, we’d love you to find out more.”
Throughout Foster Care Fortnight, the Fostering for Wolverhampton team will be out and about across the city, speaking to people in a range of everyday community spaces – from the Wulfrun Centre to local venues such as Bilston Indoor Market, Costa Coffee and more. They will also be hosting online information sessions, making it easy for people to find out more in a way that suits them.
These drop-ins and sessions are a great chance to have a casual chat with the team, ask any questions you’ve been wondering about, and hear real stories from people who foster. Whether you’re just curious, want to know how fostering fits around work, or are ready to take the first step, we’re here to help you explore what fostering could look like for you.
